December 7, 1941 - called “a date which will live in infamy” by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii, was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the Empire of japan. More than 2000 American soldiers and sailors died with another 1000 wounded. The following day, President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on japan, bringing America into World War II.
