When form meets function it can result in a symbiotic superiority. The Prather War Bowie is such a knife. I have long searched for this knife, a large Bowie with no upper guard, with beautiful/functional lines and grind. If Jim Bowie were alive today, and was head'n for the sandbar, this is the knife he would take along.
Without an upper guard, this Bowie is the perfect combat knife. It can be gripped in sabre, Filipino, or reverse ice pick grip equally well without damaging the thumb, or slicing off your fingers. The Rocky Mountain tread grips are one of the most comfortable grips I have experienced.
Bravo on the long grind (The part many knife makers get wrong). This facilitates cutting/slicing. Short grinds are just a wedge. Love the weight forward feel, good for slashing/hacking cuts. Good amount of belly (deep slicing cuts).
1095 makes for easy sharpening in the field. I usually make my own leather sheaths, but I like this sheath (quieter than leather). Stick an Arkansas stone and small bottle of oil in the pouch, and you are in survival mode. If I was sending my son in harms way, The Prather War Bowie would be at his side.
