The Spartan Blades Horkos Black stands as a purpose-built fixed blade that blends battlefield heritage with modern materials and refined execution. Designed by Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey, the Horkos was created to meet the demands of serious users who value strength, balance, and reliability above all else. Its design roots run deep, reflecting Spartan Blades’ commitment to mission-focused tools that don’t compromise when conditions are unforgiving.
With an overall length of 10.87 inches, the Horkos offers substantial reach and control without feeling oversized or cumbersome. The 5.68-inch drop point blade provides a strong, utilitarian cutting edge capable of handling demanding tasks, while still offering precise control for detailed work. A blade thickness of 0.18 inches adds confidence-inspiring durability, giving the knife the backbone needed for hard use while maintaining clean cutting performance.
At the core of the Horkos is CPM MagnaCut stainless steel, a premium modern steel engineered for exceptional toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Typically hardened to 61–63 HRC in MagnaCut versions, this steel delivers dependable performance across a wide range of environments. The blade is finished with a Black SpartaCoat PVD coating, a durable DLC-style finish that enhances corrosion resistance, reduces glare, and gives the knife a subdued, professional appearance that matches its combat-ready lineage.
The blade’s geometry sets the Horkos apart. Its drop point profile is paired with a modified harpoon-inspired tip and a relieved distal spine, creating a shape that emphasizes tip strength while remaining highly versatile. This tapered design allows for confident penetration and controlled slicing, making the Horkos equally suited for utility tasks and defensive applications. The grind and geometry work together to deliver efficiency, balance, and reliability when it matters most.
A full tang construction runs the length of the knife, ensuring strength and balance throughout. The handle scales are crafted from black CE Canvas Micarta, chosen for its durability, grip security, and comfort. Micarta performs exceptionally well in wet or dry conditions, and its ergonomic shaping allows the knife to settle naturally into the hand, reducing fatigue during extended use while maintaining positive control.
Weighing in at 8.86 ounces for the knife alone, the Horkos strikes a thoughtful balance between solidity and maneuverability. It feels substantial without being heavy, reinforcing confidence while still allowing quick, controlled movement. Carry is handled by a custom black Kydex retention sheath with a belt loop, designed for secure retention and fast access. The sheath’s adaptable design allows for multiple carry configurations, depending on personal preference and setup.
Proudly made in the United States at Spartan Blades’ North Carolina facility, the Horkos Black represents American craftsmanship paired with modern steel technology.
