Overview
The centurion was the professional officer of the Roman Legion. Commanding roughly 80-100 men at a time, a centurion was expected to be the best soldier among them, wielding his Centurion Gladius with dexterity and skill, leading by example. Given that each centurion was well-educated and well-recommended, it stands to reason that most did not have a basic gladius. Instead, each likely had a more personalized blade that signified rank and taste, like this sword. Etched down the polished blade is a pattern not all that dissimilar to a Celtic knot. The hilt is primarily gray-steel with a beautiful rosewood finish on the grip. Molded into the steel-work on the guard and the pommel are leaf and vine designs, which carry over to the hard-wood scabbard as well. While this might not be representative of a gladius that a centurion might have carried, the Centurion Gladius definitely looks fit to be wielded by one today.
