The Battle of the Little Big Horn, or more famously, Custer's Last Stand. was an armed engagemnt between the combined forces of lakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The battle took place on June 25 and 26, 1876 near the Little Bighorn River in eastern Montana Territory resulting in the an overwhelming victory for the combined Native American forces that resulted in the death of Gen. George Armstrong Custer and the annihilation of five of the Seventh Cavalry's companies. Shortly afterwards, Custer was viewed by the public as a martyr and hero of the Old American West. In recent years there has been more of a pragmatic viewpoint and sometimes vilified opinion of the man, but regardless of what side of history you stand; no collection is replete without a momento of this historic battle.
