Celebrate the 200th anniversary of our national anthem. A little-known fact is that Francis Scott Key was on board a British ship in the Chesapeake Bay negotiating a prisoner exchange while the Battle of Fort McHenry raged through the night. Writing part of the poem (which would become the Star Spangled Banner) on the back of an envelope from his pocket, Key did indeed keep vigil through the night of glaring rockets and bursting bombs to see the American Flag raised undefeated over Fort McHenry.
