Supporters of the flag view it as a symbol of heritage and the freedom of the distinct cultural tradition of the South from the oppression of the Northern government. It was a flag of battle, designed by the Confederacy as a banner representing state's rights and is still revered by the South.
Red - Represented the valor of the Confederacy.
White - Represented purity.
Blue - Represents justice as well as perseverance and determination of the people.
Stars - One star for each of the 13 states in the Confederacy.
Cross - What looks like an "X" on the "Confederate Jack" is actually the cross of St. Andrew, the first disciple of Jesus.
The Dixie Flag has a checkered past but today is used as a symbol of southern culture.
