Tales of the Great Stag follow him from the Orient and the Middle East to Europe, from ancient beliefs to early Christianity. A few details remain constant in every thing. The stag appears carrying the sun within his massive antlers. He is first glimpsed by mighty men - great warriors or tribal leaders. The mighty men follow him to a faraway land filled with game and fertile ground. Some cultures near the Arctic regions applied this legend to the absence of the sun in winter and its return in the spring, said to be carried by the Great Stag. He is apart of a vision, seen in eastern Europe, in which burning candles at the tips of his antlers surrounded the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. Wherever he appeared, he led the way to hope and prosperity.

These hand forged knives are some of the latest creations of the Kelgin Knifemakers Co-op. Located at Smkoy Mountain Knife Works, the mission of the Co-op is to educate visitors about the process of making knives. The shop is open to the public and has membership available. Founding members Rick and Tommy Mohr created these horseshoe knives straight from the Old West. Each knife was hand forged by sixteen year old Tommy with finishing touches put on by dad Rick. Carbon was added to make the blades useable. Due to the handmade nature of these knives, sizes and appearances will vary making each knife one of a kind! You will receive a single knife made from either the left or right side of a horseshoe--Our choice only.
